Southwick’s history dates back to the 18th century when it was first settled in 1770. Originally part of Westfield, Southwick was officially incorporated as a separate town in 1770. The town’s name pays homage to Colonel Benjamin Southwick, who played a significant role in its early development.

2. The Rail Trail: The Columbia Greenway Rail Trail, a former railroad track, has been transformed into a scenic trail for walking, running, biking, and horseback riding. It winds through Southwick’s charming countryside, providing a peaceful escape for nature lovers.

4. The Sofinowski Preserve:  Julius J. Sofinowski and Sylvia C. Sofinowski used to keep sheep on this land.  In June of 2002 the property was purchased by the Town of Southwick using a Self Help Grant from the Commonwealth. The property has a series of marked trails, all of which are relatively easy to traverse, with some areas that are rocky and some areas with a slight gain in elevation. 

5. The New England Trail:  A 235-mile long distance hiking trail from Long Island Sound in Connecticut to the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border.
